The 7th Convention of International Business Linkage Forum (IBLF) was held on August 2nd & 3rd 2010 in The Burswood Convention Centre, Perth, Australia. It met with an overwhelming response with over 100 delegates from over 15 countries attending the convention.

Hon. Rajitha Senaratne, Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources was the Chief Guest of the Convention. In his speech he congratulated IBLF for great work it was doing to promote business and build linkages around the work. He invited delegates to invest in Sri Lanka and benefit from Policies of the Government to Promote Trade & Industry.

Mr. James Pearson, Chief Executive, Chamber of Commerce & Industry Western Australia was the President of IBLF. The Convention was also graced by Ms. Lisa Scaffidi, the Right Honourable, Lord Mayor, City of Perth who also chaired the session of 'Opportunities & Challenges in Tourism and Education' on 2nd August 2010.

The convention witnessed CEO and high Level Management from leading companies and local government departments made presentations of Opportunities in Renewable Energy, Mining, Oil and Gas; Tourism and Education & Agribusiness sector.

The Gala Dinner on 2nd August 2010 hosted by Department of State Development with Honorary Guest the Hon Colin Barnett, Premier of Western Australia was amongst the highlight of the convention. Hon. Colin addressed the gathering and offered his support for developing business in Western Australia.

Mr. James Pearson - President IBLF 2010

As Chief Executive of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia since 2008, James leads the peak body representing local business. CCI is a strong advocate for employers, with the largest independent policy team in the State. CCI provides knowledge, influence and support to the WA business community through a range of business advisory services and supply of apprentices and trainees.

James had a public service career before moving to industry. Recruited from University in 1983 to join the Australian diplomatic service, James represented Australia in West Africa, the South Pacific and China and as a policy advisor in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

He joined the Western Australian government in 1997, first as the government's liaison with major oil and gas project developers, then as head of policy for the Department of Resources Development.

James was appointed a Director of the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) in 2000. He represented the oil and gas industry in WA and the Northern Territory, and led the industry's national productivity improvement program.

In 2002, James became External Affairs Manager for Chevron Australia. As a member of the company's strategic management team, he was responsible for policy, government and public affairs, including external advocacy, workforce communications and corporate social responsibility in Australia, Papua New Guinea and the Philippines.

James has an MBA from Victoria's Deakin University and an Honours Degree in Science from the University of Western Australia. He was a scholarship student at Scotch College in Perth.

James came to Australia in 1967, at the age of eight, as an assisted passage migrant. He is married to Andrea and has two adult sons and a teenage daughter. James's interests include reading, travel, cricket and sailing.
